Synopsis:
Gale encountered a source of dangerous shadow magic, and obeyed Mystra's sign that he should dispel it, therefore resisting the urge to use it. This triggers a letter from Elminster, who retracts his previous support for Mystra's instruction, and tells Gale he has the option to find another way to defeat the absolute.
How to trigger:
No trigger yet.
20. : There you are, Mr Dekarios. I've been champing at the proverbial bit.
18. : I've something for you. A letter from Elminster himself. He was most insistent I give it to you immediately upon your return.
1. Player: Read the letter.ORI_Gale_Event_ReadElminsterLetter
12. : *The letter is written in Elminster's crabbed hand. And, given his usual verbosity, is rather succinct...*devnote
3. : I see remaining optimistic as my duty - especially when I am not the one being asked to do the seemingly impossible.
8. : Think carefully - exceedingly so. You know Mystra, as do I. I was not born an old man. I am all too familiar with what it's like to have a goddess fill your heart with longing.
29. : If there is another way, I trust you can find it. It is not in your nature or mine to stop looking, to accept the first answer to any dilemma. Do what you can - put that mind to work.
5. : Perhaps... perhaps that should have been your mission right from the start.devnote
10. : *Reading between Elminster's cramped lines, you can draw only one conclusion. He thinks you should defy Mystra's instruction, and refuse to use the orb.*devnote
9. : What is it, darling? You look rather pale.devnote
13. Player: Elminster's changed his tune. He thinks I shouldn't use the orb.
11. : Aha! Mr Aumar can always be relied upon to bring a dash of good sense to proceedings. A shame he didn't start with that, but still.
17. : I hope you plan to heed his advice. Carefully, though. He seemed rather fidgety when he delivered his message. Mystra will have both of you in her bad books before long.End
15. Player: Oh, it's nothing. A spot of indigestion.
25. : And I'm a displacer beast.devnote
23. : However, I will not press you further. Your private correspondence is just that, technically.
22. : What kind of companion would I be were I to sneak a peek?devnoteEnd
28. Player: It's good news. I think...
24. : Good news. Well. That's good. Yes. Quite.devnote
26. : I admit I was dreading what might be in that letter. There's been so much dreadful news lately.
4. : I won't pry for specifics, Mr Dekarios. Not when I can sneak a peek at your letter while you sleep.
7. : Speaking of which - you ought to get your rest. Quite another day ahead of you, I'm sure.End
2. Player: Any idea what he wanted?
0. : One thing only: he gave the strictest instructions that this letter was for your eyes only.
27. : That being said, I'm sure he won't mind you indulging me with its subject matter, once you've broken the seal.
6. Player: I'll read it later.
19. : The most famous wizard in the realms delivers you a secret letter, and you intend to read it... some day?
16. Player: Fine. I'll read it now.ORI_Gale_Event_ReadElminsterLetter
21. Player: Well, yes, actually.
14. : Wrong. Go on. Now.
